Vice-Provost
for Faculty Programs and Academic Quality 2002-2003
This position is one of 3 major leadership positions in the Provosts
Office. This Vice-Provost works closely with the Provost and other Vice
Provosts to ensure the institutional commitment to life-long learning
and the recognition that student learning outcomes are integral to every
activity of the Office of the Provost. This individual functions as the
institutional CKO (Chief Knowledge Officer).

Faculty Advocate for Project
Alianzas (enhance the ability of Missouri communities to collaborate
with the growing Latino population through a Latino, university,
and community partnership). 2003-04.
Artistic Advisor/Liaison for Kansas
City Stravinsky Festival (Kansas
City Symphony, Kansas
City Ballet, Kansas
City Opera and UMKC Conservatory
of Music). 1999-2001.
Co-Chair (with the CEO of the Metropolitan
Arts Council of Kansas City) Arts and Culture Sub-Group
of the UMKC Urban Mission Task Force (leading to the establishment
of UMKC's Center for the City). 1999-2000.
Founding Member, UMKC
Charter School Committee (one of two at-large faculty),
to review the first applications and establish Charter Schools
in Kansas City , sponsored by UMKC. 1997-98.

Duties
of the Vice-Provost for Faculty Programs and Academic Quality:
Create a high performance team to directly support the leadership
and vision that is projected and articulated by the Provost.
Actively support UMKCs mission and core values,
Provide the grounding to fully develop high levels of scholarly
activity, intellectual capital, and cultural assets of UMKCs
campus without bordersall within the framework of academic excellence.
The
Vice-Provost for Faculty Programs and Academic Quality:
provides leadership for the Promotion and Tenure process,
articulate a vision and facilitation of faculty development
and a superior
roles and rewards structure,
supports excellence in undergraduate education,
demonstrates a commitment for a dynamic and active program
of continual student learning outcomes assessment
Functions
and Responsibilities
The Vice-Provost for Faculty Programs and Academic Quality reports
to the Provost and has major responsibilities related to the academic
mission of UMKC. These will include:
providing
leadership in the realization of student learning outcomes,
interacting with major employers to insure that UMKC students
set new standards for superior preparation,
creating the infrastructure necessary for successful collaborations.
being a spokesperson for the Chancellor and Provost locally,
within the state, and nationally.
Specific
elements of the Vice-Provost for Faculty Programs and Academic Quality
portfolio include:
1)
Catalyzing the action that will transform higher education at UMKC
while engaging Kansas City
2) Working with and inspiring faculty to embrace and imbue best practices
in producing superior student leaning outcomes;
3) Demonstrating the understanding and ability to provide leadership
and direction in the meaningful assessment and evaluation of the institution,
its faculty effectiveness, and student success;
4) Participating as a transformational leader in strategic planning
for UMKC and in building a high performance Office of the Provost;
5) Working with the UM System office in the realization of mutually
beneficial linkages with other campuses;
6) Assuring that UMKC is a central participant and catalyst in the
network of conversations in higher education;
7) Expanding UMKCs efforts to weave diversity into the fabric
of everyday life in the institution, while assuring that multiculturalism
is central to the student learning experience;
8) Inspiring and supporting faculty, students, and administrators
to use the world and community as their classroom;
9) Working closely with the director of the Center for the City and
Missouri office of the Campus 10) Compact for the city to stand for
innovative possibilities;
11) Building interdisciplinary opportunities within UMKC and between
UMKC and other institutions.
12) Confronting directly and transforming any limiting factors into
enabling mechanisms for scholarly/creative achievement and student
success.
